Set in New Orleans, the series follows a diverse group of friends who find their lives transformed in the aftermath of a shooting at a queer nightclub called the Babylon. The group struggles with vulnerability, addiction, grief, and relationships.
Dunn assembled the writer's room while isolated at his mother's condo in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador due to the COVID-19. The entire writer's staff ended up being queer, save one writer's assistant.[7] Due to low ratings and viewership, on September 23, 2022, the series was canceled after one season.[2]

As they describe the undercommons that they so value, Harney and Moten explain that participation requires us "to look squarely into the fucked-up face of things" and to issue fervent and relentless refusal.1 By refusing what has always already been refused to Black folk, queer folk, Indigenous folk, poor folk, and other similarly marginalized, the undercommons promotes an ethos of "getting lost and staying lost," to borrow from Dreamworks's Madagascar for a moment. (If a reference to an animated film seems like a bizarre or inappropriate reference here, recognize that the undercommons privileges the nonsensical as it seeks new ways to live, to think, and to interact, especially ones that contest perpetual mediation). To live a life of the undercommons, we must learn to live with brokenness, to neglect our debts, and to refuse to repair ourselves.
Rev. Lee Catoe, the project's editor, told Presbyterian News Service that the study looks at the Gospel as a way of "learning about how we experience God as queer folk, and how we experience Scripture as queer people."
"Mark has some very interesting stories that speak about inclusion and what that means, that has stories where Jesus is encountering people who have different experiences, marginalized folk, and so I just think it speaks to the queer experience, very much, right now," Catoe said.
According to Catoe, the inspiration for "Queering the Bible" came from a desire to go beyond rainbow flags and t-shirts during the LGBT pride ritual and challenge PCUSA to "go deeper in our welcoming of queer folk."
"Oftentimes when we're looking at Scripture, historically, it's been a lot of straight white men who have interpreted Scripture and then creating theologies," he said. "So, when we're talking about queering the Bible, we really are wanting to have the voice of queer folk, trans folk, who read Scripture, look at Scripture and interpret that Scripture through that lens."
